(ABOUT US)

Peninsula Friends of Animals is an all-volunteer, no-kill, nonprofit animal welfare group on the beautiful North Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. Our mission:

To prevent the birth of unwanted cats and dogs through progressive spay/neuter and educational programs. And to place as many homeless, neglected, abused animals as possible in safe, loving, permanent homes.

We provide temporary shelter, veterinary care, and spay/neutering for rescued cats and dogs, which are fostered until permanent homes can be found. Since 2000, PFOA has rescued more than 570 animals. We have spayed and neutered more than 2,390 cats and dogs. We have spayed and neutered more than 347 cats and dogs just in this year.

Safe Haven no-kill animal shelter celebrated its Grand Opening on Feb. 28-29, 2004 with many enthusiastic friends, members and supporters. Good food, good conversations, and countless tours of the cat rooms marked both days.

Cats and kittens now live in playrooms, large areas decorated with cozy furniture, pillows, and climbing trees. Toys and catnip are scattered around the rooms that even have "kitty wallpaper borders."

The rooms make both cats and people feel right at home--the perfect way to make a transition from stray and unwanted status to King or Queen of the Household!

PFOA operates solely on tax-deductible donations and with volunteer help. Peninsula Friends of Animals is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization and is not associated with any other national or local animal welfare group.

Volunteers have placed well over 484 pets in new homes. PFOA also assists others by offering a place on this website to post information for Private Adoptions.

Along with the 65-cat adoption center/shelter and the isolation building, which are currently occupied by offices and rescuees, future plans include a cat retirement home and memorial garden, and, in long range plans, a 15-dog adoption shelter. Currently we offer:

  • Free trap/spay-or-neuter/return service.
  • Low-cost or free spay/neutering to all who need it.
  • Emergency medical care for pets of low income residents
  • Emergency pet food assistance to owners of companion pets
  • Telephone counseling for simple behavior problems
  • Free educational materials.
