| ARCHIE has been at PFOA since November, 2010 and is a magnificent
tabby with white
trim. He was dumped on Ediz Hook and proved to be very friendly and loving. However,
his vet work showed that he was in kidney failure, probably as a result of poison he
ingested. He is on a special diet and his prognosis is guarded. Archie will continue
to need testing and special care throughout the remainder of his life. This gentle
boy graciously eats his special food, submits to his tests and just generally makes
friends with everyone.
| |
| AUNTIE
was born in February, 1999 and has been at PFOA since November, 1999. She pretty
much distrusts everyone, but occasionally watches TV with her foster Dad. She does sleep
indoors, but hides out most of the time.
| |
| BETTY SUE
was born in April, 2000 in a clutter of rubble at some abandoned buildings
directly behind the Hi-Way 101 Diner in Sequim. She has been at PFOA since May, 2001.
She is an absolutely gorgeous long haired gray, white and orange calico cat who is extremely
shy and does not trust anyone due to the abuse and harassment she suffered during most of her
early life.
| |
| BOOKIE
came to PFOA in February,1999 as a 10-month-old Mom. She was sapped of all
energy and nutrients from trying to feed her three babies. She's a beautifully marked
light brown tabby with silky short hair. She is semi-feral and lives in a wonderful
foster home.
| |
| CINDER
is a muted tortoiseshell cat born in June, 2000. She has been at PFOA since
November, 2002. She was brought to a foster home where she escaped from the quarantine
area and spent the winter on her own. She was found as a stray the following spring and
returned to PFOA. She has not tried to escape her permanent foster home, but years of
trying to place her have led nowhere.
| |
| DELLA
was the smallest of her three all-black littermates born in April, 2003 and
has been at PFOA since June, 2003. She is an entertaining clown of a kitty with a
loving personality. As a kitten she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and
the prognosis was that she wouldn't see her third birthday. With medical treatment,
she no longer has a heart problem, but she has been spoiled rotten because her caretakers
thought she wouldn't have a very long life. She now gets up on everything and in anything.
| |
| DINAH
was born in April, 2000 in the debris at some abandoned buildings directly behind
the Hi-Way 101 Diner in Sequim and came to PFOA in October, 2000. She is an absolutely
gorgeous short-haired tortoise shell cat who is very sweet but also painfully shy due to
the tragic circumstances of her early life
| |
| ERNEST
was born in November, 2004 and came to PFOA in May, 2007. He is a big, black
and white tuxedo cat that appears to be completely healthy; however he has tested positive
for FIV. While FIV is not transmittable to humans, it can be passed to other cats through
blood, semen or saliva. Not all cats with FIV develop problems; there is a good chance
that Ernie will live a long, healthy life despite his medical condition. Ernie was
originally a stray, but he's extremely friendly and happy. He prefers to stay indoors
and likes to sleep with his foster parents.
| |
| FAGIN
was born in April, 2003 and has been at Safe Haven since July, 2003. He is a
green-eyed, short-haired black male who can best be described as a "big lug" full of
love. He "head butts" and leans into his human and feline friends to show his affection.
He likes brushing and belly rubs on occasion, too. Fagin is currently under dietary
restriction in an attempt to lose some excess weight. He is part of a package deal with
his brother Thistle as these two are firmly bonded.
| |
| HOPE
is our "poster cat" for our Hope Fund for Disabled Animals. She was born in May, 2004.
Hope was roughly thrown as a kitten leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. When PFOA
rescued her in July, 2004, she had been put in a cardboard box with no food or water and
left for several days to lie in her own excrement. Although some wanted to euthanize her,
PFOA believed she could be saved. A wheeled mechanism was created that allows her to pull
herself around by her front legs and wheels support the back half of her body. It's been a
long hard struggle, but Hope now can get around the house and has a good, enjoyable life
which she spends with her foster parents and a paraplegic dog. Her recovery has been miraculous
and she continues to amaze all who know her. She has adapted well to her disability and has even
caught a mouse! The medical attention and special day to day care she needs and receives are
very expensive, but her sweet personality and fortitude make it all worthwhile.
| |
| JAMIE
and his brother, Johnny, were born in September, 2002 in a woodpile and brought to
PFOA by concerned neighbors in January, 2003. Jamie is a gray/black/white tabby and painfully
shy and quite afraid of humans. Both Jamie and Johnny can be petted on occasion, but it's
definitely their decision.
| |
| JEFFERSON
was born in May, 2003 and came to PFOA in July, 2004. He developed very serious
health problems which make him unadoptable. He is living in a room with other older cats at
Safe Haven, being spoiled rotten by everyone and enjoying what sunshine he can find.
| |
| JIM
was born outside, under a trailer in May, 2001. He is a long haired black and white
cat. He is painfully shy, making it difficult for potential adopters to get close enough
to know him. He has been at PFOA since June, 2001.
| |
| JOHNNY
was born feral in September, 2002 and has lived in a PFOA foster home for several
years. He and his brother Jamie have been at PFOA since January, 2003.
| |
| LINDY LOU
was born in September, 1999. She was adopted from PFOA in November, 2000, but
was returned in April, 2011 because her elderly owner could no longer care for her. She
is a very sweet older cat with allergies
| |
| LUCKY STRIKE
had been abandoned and went door-to-door begging for food. He came to PFOA
in November, 2008 with an abscessed leg, eye ulcer, and tested positive for FIV. A cat fight
further damaged his bad eye and it had to be removed. He is currently living in a wonderful
foster home.
| |
| MAGGIE
was born in April, 2000 and is semi-feral. She is a very sweet Maine Coon mix and is
a shy, gentle giant.
| |
| MARCUS
was born in May, 2001 and came to PFOA in July, 2011 because his owner could no longer
care for him. He is a beautiful and sweet long-haired tabby. However, he is diabetic
and requires insulin shots
| |
| MARTHA
was born in May, 2001 and came to PFOA in February, 2002. She loves attention and
"talks" to the volunteers who regularly visit her. She would make a wonderful companion,
but has not been adopted.
| |
| MAVIS
was born in May, 2001 and came to PFOA in February, 2002 with four other littermates.
Her siblings have all made the transition, but Mavis is extremely shy and still feral. The
prior abuse she suffered will probably cause her to never recover and accept human
companionship.
| |
| MOLLY MALONE
was born in May, 2003 and came to PFOA in July, 2003. She needs a quiet home
to live in since all her siblings died of FIP and stress could initiate the disease in her.
She's healthy now, though, and a real sweetheart — all 18 pounds of her!
| |
| MONIQUE
was born in May, 2007 and came to PFOA in June, 2010. She is a lovely, long-haired
gray mom cat who was quite feral when she had a litter of kittens in a ravine. The kittens
have all been placed, but Monique remains shy and nervous around people. She is a gentle
and sweet cat, but is easily frightened of strangers and unfamiliar situations; preferring
to hide out in a safe nook and wait for the safety of the night to venture out.
| |
| MOSTEST
was born in March, 2001 and came to PFOA in September, 2003. He has allergy and
weight issues and was disruptive in the catteries, so he became the "office cat" at Safe
Haven, along with Tippy, our handicapped cat. Mostest requires frequent medicating and
his diet and eating must be watched carefully. His care is also a bit costly and it is
likely Safe Haven will be his Forever Home.
| |
| PEGGY SUE
is another cat rescued from behind the Hi-way101 Diner. She was born in
July, 2000 and came to PFOA in January 2001. She's a pretty, short-haired calico who
chooses to winter in her foster parent's house, but summer outside. After living with
her foster parents for several years now, her foster mother can sometimes get close
enough to touch shy Peggy Sue.
| |
| PRIMROSE
was born in April, 2008 and came to PFOA in May, 2010 after being rescued
from an empty apartment where she was left with a bag of food and water. She's a beautiful
Calico long hair and has joined Mostest and Tippy as an "office cat" at Safe Haven because
of her serious allergy issues which we are working hard to get under control. She has been
allergy tested and currently gets regular shots as well as other medication and a special
diet. (Her eating must be carefully watched). Because her care is a bit costly and requires
very close monitoring, it is unlikely she will be adopted for some time.
| |
| RUTABAGA
was born in June, 1998 and came to PFOA in December, 2000. He is a large red
long-hair tabby cat with white booties and bib. He bolts whenever a human comes into his
sights and vanishes. He is well cared for at his foster home but "socialize" is a word he
does not recognize.
| |
| SPOT NELSON
was born in May, 2000 and came to PFOA in October, 2000. He was part of a
litter of six black cats and he had a white spot on his chest. Three of his littermates
died from distemper. He left his foster home one day and returned three years later. He
came back into the house and slept in the bed!
| |
| SUMARI AND DOTLESS
are siblings and identical. They were born in May, 2000 and came to
PFOA in July, 2000. Both Sumari and Dotless are terrified of people and are, except under
certain circumstances, untouchable.
| |
| THISTLE
was born in March, 2003 and came to PFOA in July, 2003. He is a sleek, poly-dactyl
neutered male with magnificent copper colored eyes and a sweet expression. He has diabetes
and receives insulin shots. Thistle especially enjoys sitting on the back of the couch,
both for the view and the closeness to his human friends.
| |
| TIPPY
was born in May, 2004 and came to PFOA in June, 2004. He is a beautiful orange
and white tabby with a sweet personality. However, he has a neurological problem, perhaps
from his mother suffering distemper when she was pregnant or from poisoning or from a
condition called Cerebellar Hypoplasia. Tippy can walk across the room, then falls down,
gets back up and repeats the process. He actually gets around pretty well and enjoys playing
and attention. He has become Safe Haven's office cat as his extra care and occasional
incontinence make it unlikely he will be adopted. He has been placed twice, and was
returned because he is unhappy when not at Safe Haven.
| |
| TJ
was born in June, 2004 and came to PFOA in December, 2005. He was picked up as a kitten
by some hippies who were living in a van. For some reason, TJ has grown into a very territorial
cat and tends to strike and nip at anyone getting near him.
| |
DOGS |
| BUCKY
is a male Lhasa Apso purchased from a pet store and sold as an 8-week-old puppy.
Originally from a puppy mill, Bucky chased cats, fought with other dogs, nipped care-takers,
resisted potty training and generally misbehaved. After 11 homes, he has found a wonderful
foster home willing to accept his naughtiness and keep him from harm's way. While mostly
loving and affectionate, Bucky's unpredictability makes him unsuitable for adoption, so he
will remain in PFOA's care for his protection.
| |
| FREDDY
is a large 4-year-old Shih Tzu/Pomeranian mix that was sold as a small puppy.
After being returned to the breeder and rescued by PFOA, his family was located and his history
of biting and running away was discovered. Freddy proved to have a badly broken tooth that was
extremely painful and caused him to bite when children tried to take toys from him. Even with
the painful tooth removed, his naughty habits have continued and make him a risk in the average
home. Freddy will live out his life with his friend Maxwell in foster care where he loves to
run and play and carry a special toy at all times.
| |
| MAXWELL
is an adorable four-year-old Shih Tzu/Chihuahua mix used as a breeding dog.
Maxwell has an enlarged heart that makes him adoption challenged. His chances of living to be
an old dog are quite slim, but he is happy and loved in his foster home where he receives
the best of care and lives with a companion dog rescued from the same home.
